October 2012

What a beautiful place we live in. The colors were just beginning to pop this past weekend.

Recently I was given a new camera and I’m learning how to use some of the newer settings. This was shot on Vivid…so the colors would be more prominent.  I imagine this weekend they will really be in their glory.

This morning I am grateful for blue skies, cool air, sunshine, my children, family and friends.

Wishing you a day of gratitude and a moment of true inner peace.

Ciao!

A rainy day… finally

After weeks of 90 degrees or more, we finally have a respite of cooler temperatures and much needed rain in the mountains of Western North Carolina. As I awake on this Wednesday, I’m reminded that there is much to be grateful for and look forward to a day with some of my extended family.

Also, a reminder to those who are on twitter… check out the hashtag #CTWW (Change The World Wednesdays) .. it’s a small group of followers who have ideas about what we as individuals can do to improve the environment around us.

Enjoy your day! Ciao!

This day has been celebrated for over 75 years by my Lebanese relatives as ‘Family Reunion’ day in Birmingham, Alabama. This year is the first year we have NOT celebrated it together on this day..instead, they moved it to May!  Birmingham is hot on July 4th…but, those of us who have been attending for more than 20 years have grown accustomed to the heat, the smell of delicious ribs and chicken cooking in the pits and most of all Saf-Souf – a Lebanese salad made similarly to Tabouleh, but with very finely chopped lettuce, and of course the other sides like corn on the cob, baked beans, deviled eggs and chocolate brownies or cakes and pies for dessert. After the family meal is celebrated, we all walked over to the Catholic Church across the street to join in the various games, such as the Cake Walk, Wheel of Fortune, the AMAZING Treasure Hunt in the School’s gym, and the finale would be my Aunt Grace, singing Karaoke to Frank Sinatra’sMy Way‘! I have so many fond memories of this day and the way our family has grown and united and kept this tradition. It saddens me to know that the following generation has changed the date and the location. But, next year…I know my father, husband, and daughter will make efforts to attend this gathering of the Adamo/Shory clan and celebrate with as much love and sharing as in year’s past.

Wishing all of you a very Happy 4th of July!
